Unblock My Chi Please...

I decided to try this acupuncture place that supposedly mimics how things are done in Asia. No fancy individual rooms. It's 4 recliners in a small family room setting with relaxing music and scent. This would turn off most people but I'm willing to try anything once as long as it doesn't involve me jumping out of a plane or holding a spider. I did a bit of research and deemed it safe and they were very reasonably priced and had excellent reviews.

The lady there was nice. She asked me a bunch of questions and between the stress, anxiety, tension, depression and IBS that cropped up in the past year she said it sounded like I was a perfect candidate for acupuncture and that my chi was blocked. Um, I would figure. Sometimes, I'm surprised I'm not in some mental institution what with all the stress and drama. I have the feeling things have leveled off now so it's time to get me back to my old self. The social, slightly adventurous self who isn't so thrilled spending her nights at home all the time. Sometimes...yes. All the time...no.

So I sat with needles sticking out all over the place. They didn't hurt. It hurt a little when I moved...which you aren't supposed to do but I'm a jittery type of person sometimes. It gived you a feeling of heavyness and because you feel a little weighed down, you relax and sometimes, fall asleep. I had to take my glasses off during the procedure and at some point, the lady asked if I was ok to go and so I asked what time it was (blind without my glasses; can't even see the clock on the wall!) and I had been there for over an hour! So you definitely relax. All week, I've been heading to bed early which is a first for me. By 1030pm, I'm sticking in my earplugs and turning off the light. Usually, this didn't happen until 12midnight or even 1230am which means I'm a freakin' mess when the alarm sounded at 630am. I still don't want to get up but at least I don't feel like a steamroller ran me over.

The lady says I should do 8 - 10 more sessions to see all the benefits. Apparently, my chi is really effed! I'm curious to see what other benefits I see so I'm willing to give it another try and will go back on Monday. She also suggested I take Omega-3 because I've been so scattered and forgetful and have dry skin issues. Does anyone take Omega-3? There's way too many options out on the market.

Stitching update in next post. I had to frog last night. Grrr! But I am so close to the end of WHMB. I have a busy weekend planned so don't know how much stitching I will be able to get accomplished. I hope I can finish!

Today, San Francisco has a heavy heart as it pays tribute and buries two firefighters. The fire service has been under attack lately because of the high cost to fund pension plans and bad press. It is sad that it takes a tragedy for people to realize that it is a fair exchange for those who are in the practice of running into burning buildings when everyone else is running out. In this instance, they paid the ultimate sacrifice to ensure safety of a home's residents and the neighboring property. This hits close to home for me because of my job. Today, the fire service and the City of San Francisco mourns alongside the families.

If you come across a fire engine in your neighborhood, thank them for the service they provide. You never know when they will be the ones running to come and help you with little regard for the danger they put themselves in.

Until next time...

My heart goes out to the friends, family and colleagues of those firefighters.

I am glad you enjoyed your acupuncture. My husband doesnt care for it. It prefers massages. I have never tried it, but I am not wild about massages, so maybe I should. I hope you get your chi all lined up soon!

I was taking fish oil for the Omega-3s for a while. I think I took Nature Made brand. I liked that one because it didn't taste or smell fishy and didn't bother my stomach.

Interesting about the acupuncture. I hope it helps. I'm always (or at least usually) lights out by 10:30. I like to do it by 10pm. :D This time of year, I wake up before my alarm at 6:10. Weird, huh?

I definitely feel thinkful for all firefighters and what they do for us. It's so sad about those SF firefighters.

How sad about the firefighters, they do an incredible job.

Glad the acupuncture went well - I've been going for acupuncture for a while to sort out some major anxiety issues. I'm not 100% sorted yet, but I know that things have shifted inside since I've been going :) Good luck with the rest of the sessions.

Interesting to read about your first acupuncture session. It sounds like you got some benefit from it, Valerie, so I hope the next sessions are even more helpful.

Oh, that is so sad about the two firefighters. I can't even imagine the daily dangers they face...

Enjoy your busy weekend, and I hope to see a finish on WMHB very soon :)

Sounds like you already have some benefit from the acupuncture. I take Nordic Natural Ultimate Omega. You get a balance of omega 3, 6, and 9. They are a little pricey, but I think they are worth it.

I am so glad you are trying acupuncture and I hope it makes a difference for you.

I take Krill oil because fish oil can oxidize very quickly and it can actually be bad for you. Krill smells a bit like fish food, but I take it without smelling it. LOL.

Sounds like you are benefiting from it already! Let us know how you feel after a few more sessions. I always had neck/shoulder/head massages in my periods of anxiety as well as cognitive therapy. I still use the relax and breathing exercises from time to time. Never tried acupuncture and am interested who it works out for you.
My husband uses Nordic Ultimate Omega (Whole Foods) as it was recommended to him as one of the best organic and healthy ones on the market.

That's so sad to hear about the firemen. :(

Good luck with the acupuncture! My husband did it for a long while to help with some of the tendons in his arm........which he eventually needed surgery for but he LOVED having the acupuncture done because it was so relaxing. It really did help him for that. I hope it keeps on working for you so you can get back to where you want to be. :)

The acupuncture sounds intersting. I might have to give it a go sometime. I hope you get lots of benefit from it {{{hugs}}}

So sorry to hear about the firefighters. They do an amazing job.

I have never tried acupuncture but I do believe it works and I hope it'll make a difference for you.

Seems like we never appreciate folks until a tragedy hits or we need them. Sending prayers for the families of those fire fighters.

That is so sad about the firefighters. I don't think that people appreciate all that they do for us.

I have never tried acupuncture before, but I know of some people who have and swear by it. You will have to keep us posted on the results as you go along.

And I'd like your secret for getting to bed early. Last night I couldn't fall asleep until 3:00 - it's been like that all week - then I'm like a zombie during the day.

Hey Val, to answer your question on my blog, they seem to work with any ribs that fit in the crock. I have used pork, beef, baby back. All good! I'll check my calendar for NiaH and see what days I have free and let you know.

From what you say, it seems to have worked for you :o) You do have to go to about 8-10 sessions before you really feel the full effects. I hope you will continue to go.

I'm playing catch up on blog reading, so I'm just now seeing this. I am glad you're trying acupuncture. You'll have to let us know how it works for you. I do take Omega 3s, from GNC. I think my chi is majorly effed at the moment too, so perhaps some acupuncture is in order for me as well?!
